Aotearoa’s vast ocean, a top 10 global expanse at 4,083,000 sq km, is economically crucial, yielding $7.4 billion from marine industries. Despite this, under 0.5% is conserved, jeopardising numerous species, including seabirds, invertebrates, shorebirds, and marine mammals, while essential areas like Tīkapa Moana / the Hauraki Gulf suffer decline. This event, hosted by WWF New Zealand, is an opportunity for our political parties to outline where they stand on WWF’s ’10 Asks’ for our ocean and achieving a sustainable, resilient, and healthy marine environment.
