The Hollywood Avondale has made a bold impression from day dot. The iconic art-deco venue, built in 1915, still gleams of those golden years when silent flicks and 35mm screenings were the name of the game.  

In keeping with its heritage grandeur, The Hollywood continues to screen 35mm classics much to the cinema community’s delight. On the other side of the spectrum, this grand old lady dabbles in digital screenings and live music to boot, with state-of-the-art sound systems fit for serenading a wide range of music fans. The beloved Auckland landmark was even dubbed by American movie director Quentin Tarantino as the best cinema in New Zealand.

Boogie to modern beats in a cool vintage setting or take the whole whānau out for an 80s movie night. When it comes to live music, The Hollywood is the kind of venue that gives you a front-row atmosphere no matter where you sit. The venue is also on the film festival circuit, hosting screenings for the likes of Auckland Film Festival and NZ International Film Festival.

The Hollywood is a 15-20 minute drive from the city centre. With its convenient location within Avondale Village, it is also easily accessible via several bus routes.

Every year, The Hollywood hosts a 24-hour movie marathon with a quirky line-up of movies. Being the ultimate cinephile test of endurance, it’s worth splashing out on beanbag seating.
