Central to Christmas memories for generations of audiences, The Nutcracker is a timeless celebration of family, fantasy and growing up, where ‘home for Christmas’ is the most powerful magic of all.
A uniquely Kiwi touch transports our audiences to the nostalgia of childhood holidays at the beach in Act I, before being carried in Act II to the snowy Southern Alps, where we encounter a fairytale Kingdom of the Sweets – some of which may look quite familiar…
This new production will be created by RNZB Artistic Director Ty King-Wall, with a formidable team of creatives who will bring this magical production to life.
Live orchestra will accompany performances at the Aotea Centre.

Check out the sculpture of celebrated Kiwi opera singer Dame Kiri Te Kanawa which sits on Level 3 of the Aotea Centre. It was created by local artist Terry Stringer and unveiled by Dame Kiri Te Kanawa herself when the auditorium was named in her honour in 2019.

The Aotea Centre is a short walk up Queen Street from Waitematā Station, and the Civic car park is conveniently located beside the venue if you’re driving.
