Almost 40 years since taking the West End by storm, this tragedy of passion and beauty is re-imagined in this stunning concert production coming to the Aotea Centre in 2027.
In the turmoil of the Vietnam War, Chris, an American soldier, and Kim, a Vietnamese girl, fall in love and marry but are distressingly separated when Saigon falls. As years pass, Chris, unable to contact Kim, remarries and attempts to move on with his life. Kim, however, gives birth to Chris' son and waits faithfully for Chris' return. This tender and tense tale is of a mother prepared to make the ultimate sacrifice for the sake of her son, an American soldier conflicted with the traumatic remnants of war, and the Engineer, a pimp and survivor who yearns for a super-sized life beyond Vietnam with his own “American Dream”.
This semi-staged concert series features some of New Zealand’s finest musical theatre talent, a local orchestra and a choir of forty. With an epic score including “I’d Give My Life For You”, “Why God Why”, “Bui Doi” and “The Movie In My Mind”, Miss Saigon is a theatrical event not to be missed.
