Oceania Tango is proud to bring the region’s finest tango dancers together to compete under one roof. See Oceania’s tango dancers perform as you never seen before.
For the first time, the tango community in the Oceania Region will be represented in the 2024 World Tango Dance Championship, held yearly in Buenos Aires. This year’s Oceania Tango Championship is aimed at preparing our tango dancers for the main competition overseas.
There are two categories in this competition. Official Categories are the Salon/ Tango de Pista and Stage/ Escenario Tango. Non-Official categories are Vals, Milonga and Jack & Jill.
A winning couple will be selected in each Official category: Salon/ Tango de Pista and Stage/ Escenario Tango. Both couples will go forward to compete in Buenos Aires in the World Tango Championship in their respective category. The prize is a return trip to Buenos Aires and accommodation for two couples, compliments of LATAM Airlines and Viva Expeditions Travel.
Official Category – Qualifying Round and Semi-Finals to select 3 or more best couples in each category. The winners will go forward to the Finals held on Friday night at the Auckland Town Hall, and from there on to Argentina to compete in the World Tango Dance Championship.
Non-Official Category – Qualifying round to Finals. There are only two rounds for non-official category. The winners will be selected and crowned on the same day.

Local tip He tīwhiri mō te rohe
Leave plenty of spare time in case there’s traffic on the motorway or around the Takapuna village. Even better – get dinner or a pre-show drink nearby so you can soak up the bustling beachfront vibe.
