Be front and centre as student-created wearable art hits the runway at the Aotea Centre. In TOI, student designers get a taste for the world-renowned World of WearableArt experience and create a fantastic piece of wearable art that tells a story. Garments this year are inspired by one of five design briefs: Stories of the South Pacific, Imaginary Friends, Rewind Time, Crafted Couture and Open.
TOI is produced by RQP and Showquest, and proudly supported by the World of WearableArt, the Ministry of Education, Bernina, and The Fabric Store.
Getting there Te huarahi ki reira
The Aotea Centre is a short walk up Queen Street from Britomart station, and the Civic car park is conveniently located beside the venue if you’re driving.
Local tip He tīwhiri mō te rohe
Check out the sculpture of celebrated Kiwi opera singer Dame Kiri Te Kanawa which sits on Level 3 of the Aotea Centre. It was created by local artist Terry Stringer and unveiled by Dame Kiri Te Kanawa herself when the auditorium was named in her honour in 2019.
