Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland
is all about its people.
We’re home to 220 ethnic groups, one of the most diverse populations in the world, including the largest Pasifika population of any city. We are known for celebrating diversity and inclusivity which makes Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland an exciting place to live and visit.
Hosting the games in Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland gives us the opportunity to celebrate our progressive stance on human rights and proudly showcase the hard work the LGBTQI+ community in Aotearoa New Zealand has done and continue to do to ensure Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland is one of the most inclusive and gay-friendly regions in the world. We offer everyone a strong, supportive community and a warm welcome.
Understanding The
Gay Games Philosophy
Aotearoa New Zealand is a nation of firsts and recognised worldwide for being a leader in human rights. We were the first country to give women the right to vote; we’ve shown leadership through the passing of anti-discrimination laws; and we have a low gender pay gap, in comparison to the rest of the world.
The Gay Games values align closely with Aotearoa New Zealand’s values and the Māori world view that we embrace. Hosting the Gay Games in Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland will be a huge step towards furthering rights for the LGBTQI+ community in terms of gender recognition, adoption, anti-discrimination and other issues in both New Zealand and across Asia-Pacific.
