Hosting the games in Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland gives us the opportunity to celebrate our progressive stance on human rights and proudly showcase the hard work the LGBTQI+ community in Aotearoa New Zealand has done and continue to do to ensure Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland is one of the most inclusive and gay-friendly regions in the world. Understanding The 

Gay Games Philosophy


Aotearoa New Zealand is a nation of firsts and recognised worldwide for being a leader in human rights. We were the first country to give women the right to vote; we’ve shown leadership through the passing of anti-discrimination laws; and we have a low gender pay gap, in comparison to the rest of the world. 


The Gay Games values align closely with Aotearoa New Zealand’s values and the Māori world view that we embrace. Hosting the Gay Games  in Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland will be a huge step towards furthering rights for the LGBTQI+ community in terms of gender recognition, adoption,  anti-discrimination and other issues  in both New Zealand and across Asia-Pacific.
