Ready to discover a spot that's both unique and heartwarming? Meet the donkeys at Highfield Garden Reserve, nestled on the scenic Snells Beach/Algies Bay boundary. This community gem offers a perfect blend of nature, history, and our adorable donkey residents. Wander along the picturesque paths and enjoy stunning sea views while meeting Tina, Tara, Topsy, Turvey, Truffle, and her offspring Toby, Tilly II, and Titan. Remember, they love a nibble of carrots, apples, or silverbeet!
The land, generously gifted by Alison and Ted Roberts in 1985, has developed into a cherished reserve, thanks to the dedicated volunteers and the Donkey Society Inc. Their tireless work ensures the wellbeing of our donkey friends and preserves this beautiful slice of Kiwi landscape. Fancy getting involved? Join our community through the brochure box onsite or the "Donkeys at Highfield" Facebook page. Volunteers are always welcome, and you can reach out to Ox Wightman or Peter Caccia-Birch for more info.
Highfield Reserve isn't just a place; it's a vibrant expression of community spirit. Whether you're here for a tranquil walk amidst nature's splendour or to extend a friendly hand to our donkey pals, you're sure to leave with a smile and a story to share. Let’s keep this magical place thriving for generations to come. Pop in for a visit, connect with nature, and maybe become part of this special community. Who knows, you might even find a new favourite pastime with a charming donkey friend by your side!
