Designed and built in 1942 in response to a threat of Japanese invasion from the sea- Stony Batter is the largest Coastal Defence Fortresses ever constructed in New Zealand. This truly massive complex is hidden deep underground on beautiful Waiheke Island.
It has been repurposed to offer guided heritage tours, features lighting systems, a Concert Chamber, and museum exhibits.
Getting there Te huarahi ki reira
Parking at the end of Public Road. Then a short 1km walk along a farm road.
