Kapa haka excellence is coming to Tāmaki Makaurau!
Te Matatini Festival brings together competing kapa haka groups from all over Aotearoa and Australia, in an unforgettable celebration of Māori culture.
Fifty years after its inception in 1972, the Festival – the Olympics of kapa haka - will be held at Eden Park from 22-25 February 2023.
Get involved in the thrill and the magic of kapa haka, even if you can’t make it to the Festival. See, experience and explore what’s on offer around Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland in the lead-up to and during Te Matatini here!
Is your organisation planning an event that celebrates kapa haka and Māori performing arts and culture? Can members of the public attend your event? If so, we’d love to know about it, and let others know too! If you’d like us to list your event here, please send us information by clicking the button above.
It’s the best way to get around town and to Te Matatini Festival at Ngā Ana Wai – Eden Park. Catch the train, bus or ferry for free if you have a ticket to the festival.
Check the Auckland Transport website for information on where to buy HOP cards and view up-to-date travel information. On the day, have your festival ticket ready when you board the bus or train and you’re on your way!
