Ngā Taonga Tūturu are treasures that embody mana (prestige), tapu (sacred power) and mauri (life force). Bringing together whakairo tupuna (carving of Māori ancestors) and the portraits of Māori ancestors by Gottfried Lindauer, Ngā Taonga Tūturu: Treasured Māori Portraits considers the inherent cultural values embodied and expressed in these taonga.
The exhibition’s curators, Nathan Pōhio and Jane Davidson-Ladd, share insights into the taonga on display and will share some kupu along the way.
This tour is free but be quick to register as spaces are limited.

Auckland Art Gallery is on the corner of Kitchener and Wellesley Streets in the city centre. Te Waihorotiu Station is around a 5-minute walk away, while Waitematā Station and the ferry terminal are around a 15-minute walk. The OuterLink also stops nearby on Wellesley Street East.
