“My mother says kids have to take care of themselves. That’s how we avoid turning into sea-foam and falling down wells. That’s how we escape witches and kings who chop and curse and snip and steal. That’s why I practice punching every afternoon.”
A child looks to the skies, to her father, and the space in her life her mother once filled. The father delves under the foundations of his own home to search for answers, as the ground shifts beneath his feet and the water begins to rise. The mother flies far away, leaving a single feather as legacy.
Cygnet is an inter-generational journey, a perilous folk-tale and a coming-of-age story told through Red Leap’s signature physical-theatre lens. An allegory of loss, discovery and imagination’s power to change worlds. Based on the short story by Lara Ehrlich exploring swan bride folklore, Cygnet is a non-verbal, visually captivating production featuring astounding puppetry, bold physicality, and live projection for ages 8+.
Red Leap Theatre will present one public showing as part of Cygnet's Development season.
