This day marks the start of the city we know today.
Joe will share kōrero about his tūpuna and others linked to Te Rā Tuku Whenua, including Te Hira Te Kawau and his father paramount chief of Ngāti Whātua ki Tāmaki, Apihai Te Kawau who gifted whenua (land) to Governor Hobson.
This kōrero will be in English with kupu Māori (words) used throughout.
The talk is free, but spaces are limited. Please book to avoid disappointment.
Where to go
When you arrive at the Gallery, go straight to Te Kawau Gallery on Level 1. If you need help finding it, ask a Gallery Assistant for directions.
Please arrive at Te Kawau Gallery before 12pm so the talk can begin on time.

There is plenty of paid parking nearby or it’s a 15 min walk from Waitematā Station. There’s also a free tour in English tour every Tues, Weds, and Fridays at 1.30pm.
