Following a record-breaking 2025 festival that welcomed more than 60,000 visitors across four nights, Takapuna Winter Lights returns from Thursday 30 July to Sunday 2 August 2026.
This free, family-friendly festival transforms central Takapuna into a spectacular winter wonderland of light, creativity and community. Curated by internationally acclaimed light artist Angus Muir, the event blends immersive light art, live entertainment and interactive experiences to create an unforgettable evening for visitors of all ages.
Across Hurstmere Green, Central Hurstmere Road, Potters Park and Waiwharariki Anzac Square, discover stunning large-scale light installations, interactive sculptures, live performances and delicious food offerings.
Festival highlights include:
Large-scale interactive light installations and sculptures.
Live performances from talented Takapuna Grammar School musicians and performers.
Family-friendly experiences, roaming entertainment and delicious food vendors.
Returning favourites alongside exciting new installations and surprises.
Due to the festival's popularity and record attendance in previous years, entry is managed through free allocated sessions across the four nights to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all visitors.
Free session tickets will be available from 3 July 2026.
Plus, all ticket holders who scan their ticket at the Prize Entry Booth during their allocated session will go in the draw to win a $1,000 Takapuna shopping spree.
Takapuna Winter Lights 2026 is proudly presented by Takapuna Business Association, with support from Auckland Council Events, Tātaki Auckland Unlimited, Angus Muir Design, Go Media and Barfoot & Thompson, alongside funding partners and local businesses who help keep this event free for the community.
