This annual event has been organized by our organization for over 30 years and at the Auckland Showground every year from 2002 except when the event had to be cancelled due to CoVID-19 in 2022. This event has grown in popularity over the years and its attendance number now well exceeds 20,000 people.
Channel 33 will once again be our co-host for this 2026 event. We will be supported by our major sponsors such as Multi-Media, Barfoot & Thompson, Tiger Fintech, ANZ Bank and Lee Kum Kee and many new less major sponsors. The event will continue to have free entry and feature the following activities:
• Grand Opening at 10 am with Lion Dance
• Over 200 specialist stalls selling traditional & exotic Chinese hot delicacies,
Chinese New Year foodstuffs, Chinese traditional arts & crafts, & promoting advisory services
• Extensive indoor and outdoor entertainment program of Chinese cultural songs, dances, musical items, martial arts, tai chi and other Chinese
activities
• Other entertainment and games & rides for children
This free event is eagerly anticipated by many thousands of recent migrants from China and other parts of Asia because they can again experience the sights, sounds, smells and pageantry of a traditional Chinese New Year celebration that they enjoyed each year in their previous home country.
The local mainstream Kiwis and NZ-born Chinese also enjoy the event because of the great entertainment both indoors and outdoors, the exotic variety of Asian food available and the wide range of goods and services displayed in the market area.
