‘The symphony must be like the world’, said Mahler. ‘It must embrace everything’. This is true
of his Third Symphony most of all.
Music depicting nature’s awakening after a long winter rubs shoulders with the most carefree music Mahler ever wrote; the rapt stillness of high summer, the quiet contemplation of night; a joyous vision of heaven and an overpowering hymn to love.
Musicians from the Australian National Academy of Music will join the orchestra for our exciting annual collaboration, along with singers from Voices New Zealand. Giordano Bellincampi will gather orchestral and vocal forces together to bring Mahler’s all-encompassing vision to life.
