Mussorgsky originally composed it for piano, but Maurice Ravel transformed his rough-hewn original into a spectacular orchestral showpiece.
The trumpet shines in the hands of Austrian Selina Ott, with Haydn’s concerto. There’s plenty of flash, of course, but in the limpid slow movement Haydn fondly lets it show its sweet, melodic side.

Auckland Town Hall is opposite Aotea Square on Queen Street. This is along a main bus route and takes about 17-20 minutes to walk from Waitematā Station and the ferry terminal. There is parking available at the Civic carpark which brings you right to the back entrance of the venue.
