A weekend in Auckland with Moses MackayMoses Mackay is a household name in New Zealand and a Waiheke Island local, renowned for his musical talents as a member of SOL3 MIO. With a #1 debut solo album 'Grace' and appearances on TV, radio, and charitable projects, Moses is a multifaceted personality. Discover Moses' top Auckland weekend spots and activities, curated from his own experiences with family and friends.
Federal Delicatessen
Start your morning with bottomless coffee and a pie at Federal Delicatessen, an American diner under the Sky Tower. Their chicken salad sandwich with extra cheese and gravy dip is my go-to, but only from 10.30am to noon. Then walk down to the ferry building and take a boat over to Waiheke Island, where there are plenty of dog walks, cafes, and vineyards.
Waiheke Island
Grab lunch at either Cable Bay, Casita Miro, or Mudbrick Vineyard, go for a swim or paddle off Onetangi Beach.
Fenice
Then head over to Fenice Restaurant, where my Italian Aunty Ari is the Head Chef and known for her authentic Tiramisu, my favourite! If we've gone overboard on the desserts like we usually do, we can pop into F45 Waiheke for a workout with the crew!
La Fuente
Take the ferry back to the city and visit La Fuente, located just 5 minutes' walk from the ferry terminal in the heart of Britomart. I’m a big fan of sipping on mezcal (a smokier, smoother version of tequila), and La Fuente is a small mezcal bar owned by the nicest Mexican mezcal guru, Edmundo. Go there and tell him Moses sent you; he’ll laugh with joy! PS: The cheese and onion toasties on the ferry back and forth from the island are infamous; remember to plan your travel in advance as the ferry services often don't anticipate the number of travellers on a hot summer day!
