The 19th Auckland Lantern Festival takes place at Auckland Domain from Thursday, 1 – Sunday, 4 March.

Media are welcome to attend and cover the festival.

Please note – Thursday is Lantern Appreciation Night, with no performances (apart from the brief opening ceremony), no stalls, food or children’s amusements.

On Thursday, the opening ceremony formalities take place from 7.15pm to approximately 8pm.

On Friday, the festival, with stalls, roaming entertainment, stage programmes and martial arts demonstrations, runs from 5pm to 10.30pm, and on Saturday and Sunday, 4pm to 10.30pm, with the fireworks finale at 10.15pm on Sunday night.

Please be advised that there are extensive road closures and parking restrictions in place for the festival, and tens of thousands of people are expected to attend, so any vehicle access needs to be arranged in advance and is subject to availability.

If you require media vehicle access, or any specific filming requirements, please let us know before 5pm Thursday.

Please let us know if your organisation plans to attend so we can ensure the festival events team are aware of your presence. On the day, we will provide you with a media identification lanyard and facilitate your coverage of the festival.

You can also text ‘Lantern’ to 332 to receive your unique link to the 2018 Auckland Lantern Festival mobile site, powered by Spark, featuring programme information and an interactive map (or visit aucklandnz.com/lantern). * Standard text rates and terms and conditions apply.
