On Friday 22 October, the Government announced a support package for Auckland businesses affected by alert level restrictions, and as the country transitions to the new COVID-19 Protection Framework. This package helps Auckland businesses access:
• advice and planning support
• support to implement advice and planning
• health and wellbeing support
• business community resources
Activate Tāmaki Makaurau has been set up to connect existing Auckland businesses with that support. It is an opportunity to assist the business community to navigate the current environment and build more resilient businesses by supporting them to work through tough decisions, seize future opportunities and adapt where necessary to enable businesses to thrive.

Health & Wellbeing Support
This package, First Steps – provides access to health and wellbeing support tailored to the many business owners across Tāmaki Makaurau that are feeling overwhelmed, isolated and under pressure from the mental and emotional impact of ongoing COVID-19 restrictions.

Our partners have provided free tools and resources you can access right now. These include webinars, checklists and handbooks on how to operate under the COVID-19 Protection Framework, vaccinations and returning to work safely.
Activate Tāmaki Makaurau is the delivery programme for the business advice and mental health support for Auckland businesses announced by the Minister of Finance and the Minister of Small Business. This is led through Auckland Unlimited as the Regional Business Partner in the Auckland region, and supported by the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE).
Auckland Unlimited will coordinate the wider Auckland business support network in a collective approach to reach Auckland's diverse business community, including Māori and Pacific businesses.
Yes. Eligible businesses can register and apply for Activate Tāmaki Makaurau Business Advice, Implementation Grants, Health and Wellbeing Support and/or Business Community Resources even if they have accessed previous government funding such as the Wage Subsidy, Resurgence Payment or Regional Business Partner Network support.
No. There are no fees for businesses applying for Activate Tāmaki Makaurau, a fully government-funded economic support package for Auckland businesses.
No, this is not a cash payment. Activate Tāmaki Makaurau pays for specific services, for business advice and/or implementing business advice. The Resurgence Support Payment and Wage Subsidy Scheme are more suitable for businesses' cashflow concerns.
It is designed to support Auckland businesses through the uncertainty and impacts caused by COVID-19. This support will help businesses be more resilient in the future, support tough business decisions, improve businesses' ability to operate when COVID-19 restrictions are in place, and help businesses to seize future opportunities and productivity gains.
Auckland has spent more time under COVID-19 restrictions than other parts of New Zealand, which is having a significant and compounding impact on our businesses, particularly small to medium businesses and sole traders.
This is Auckland's fifth lockdown, and the region has been in lockdown since 17 August 2021. As of December 01, Auckland has spent 106 days in Alert Levels 4 and 3, compared to 22 days for the rest of New Zealand.
Expert advice and support to keep your business moving forward – whether that's help with financial planning and cashflow management, developing your marketing strategy, or creating a digital media plan. You might choose to look at your overall business management, continuity, and strategy. Auckland businesses can apply for up to $3000 + GST through Business Advice support and the total value of the support will be determined as part of the application process.
You need to have a plan in place or have accessed Activate Tāmaki Makaurau Business Advice to create one.
Now you can register for a grant to implement your plan. This grant will pay for an expert – or experts – with the tools and know-how to put your business plan into action.
Auckland businesses can apply for up to $4000 +GST per business through an Implementation Grant and the final value of the support will be determined as part of the application process. This recognises many businesses have business plans ready to go and can see a way forward, but don't necessarily have the cash reserves to go ahead. This grant will give many Auckland businesses the ability to begin implementing their business plan.

Activate Tāmaki Makaurau is led through Auckland Unlimited as the Regional Business Partner in the Auckland region. It is coordinated with the wider Auckland business support network in a collective approach to reach Auckland's diverse business community, such as Māori and Pacific businesses, and supported by MBIE.
Auckland Unlimited is working closely with the wider business ecosystem in the region, including Amotai, Auckland Business Chamber, Business Events Industry Aotearoa, Employers & Manufacturers Association, Heart of the City, Hospitality New Zealand, Restaurant Association, Retail New Zealand, Tourism Industry Aotearoa, Whāriki - Māori Business Network, Pacific Business Trust, Regional Business Partner Network and supported by MBIE.
Collectively, these organisations represent many SMEs across the Auckland regional economy.
You do not need to be a member of these organisations to access Activate Tāmaki Makaurau support.
