New Zealand has been awarded the hosting rights for the 2020 BWF World Junior Championships and 2025 BWF World Senior Championships, announced on 30 November in Kuala Lumpur by the Badminton World Federation.

The tournaments will be based in Auckland, and securing two global events which fall in the city’s tourism shoulder season is fantastic news for the region.

They will add to Auckland’s reputation as a world-class sports city and give our region international profile – particularly in Asian markets.

Badminton New Zealand led the successful event bid with investment support from ATEED, on behalf of Auckland Council, and the Government.

The tournaments will attract visitors who will stay for multiple nights and take time to experience all Auckland has to offer, directly benefiting the regional economy and supporting quality jobs in our tourism industry. Read more about the tournament wins.
