The Tāmaki Herenga Waka Festival during Auckland’s Anniversary weekend showcased the unique Māori history, heritage and contemporary culture of Tāmaki Makaurau, linked to the 19 iwi across the region. The third annual festival saw a huge range of activities at the Viaduct Events Centre including kapa haka, contemporary Māori music, delicious kai and a variety of authentic arts and crafts. There were waka parades, rides and carving demonstrations. Te Wananga o Aotearoa again was the festival’s strategic sponsor.

ATEED also recently supported a high-level delegation of Australian Indigenous Business leaders on their visit to Aotearoa. The delegation met with Ngati Whatua Orakei and large corporates such as Air New Zealand, KPMG and Westpac which are leading the charge in embracing Māori identity and supporting the Maori economy.

Along with our broader strategic review underway, ATEED is also refreshing its specific Māori Economic Development Strategy to improve the prosperity of Auckland’s Māori.
