How Auckland’s ferry services help people see the city, sustainably

For international event and conference attendees looking to explore Auckland during their downtime, there’s no better way to see the city than on the water – and Fullers360 are the best people for the job.

Every year, Fullers360 ferries serve six million passengers across the Hauraki Gulf, taking locals and tourists alike to and from 18 unique destinations, including the downtown CBD, Waiheke Island, Devonport, Rangitoto Island, Rotoroa Island, Motutapu Island and the Coromandel.

What started out as a small family business 35 years ago, Fullers360 is now a lifeline for organisations and communities and a proud guardian of the Gulf – doing their bit to protect the water and native environments.

Made up of beautiful coastal inner suburbs along the Waitematā Harbour and wildlife sanctuaries further afield, Auckland’s Hauraki Gulf offers an abundance of places to explore. Taking on the role of kaitiaki [guardians], Fullers360 is deeply committed to maintaining the delicate ecosystem.

Partnering with the Department of Conservation, Fullers360 hold a pest-free warrant, upholding vigorous bio-security standards to ensure the conservation islands across the Gulf which house native New Zealand species aren’t compromised.

Business event attendees wanting to travel to Auckland’s outermost islands to see native animals in their natural habitats can rest assured they are doing so authentically, without impacting New Zealand’s delicate flora and fauna.

“As kaitiaki [committed guardians], we take our responsibility seriously to keep the Hauraki Gulf and water environments clean and green,” says Andree Anderson, Fullers360 Events & Charters Sales Executive.

“We work hard in our daily work to conserve and protect the environment and the natural life that lives on and within it.”

Alongside vigorous bio-security standards, Fullers360 transports conservation workers and zoologists across the water to facilitate valuable tree planting, wildlife releases and conservation work.

They also collaborate with conservation trusts across the Gulf, helping plant over 500,000 trees in collaboration with the Motutapu Restoration Trust.

On top of day-to-day operations and services across the Hauraki Gulf, Fullers360 is working towards decarbonising Auckland’s transport. The team have been exploring hybrid opportunities and last year announced the city’s first ever high-speed, plug-in, electric ferry.

10,000 free ferry tickets for environmental organisations and volunteers

Set to be completed in 2023, the electric vessel will have capacity to transport 300 passengers at once across the Waitematā Harbour from Auckland’s CBD to the picturesque Devonport. The vessel will reduce carbon emissions by 75,000kgs per year on the one route alone.

“We know that green ferry transport is the future, so we’ve made a commitment to never purchase a diesel vehicle again,” says Andree.

“A large-scale fully electric, fast ferry network provides a world-first experience for local and international visitors. Through investment and delivery of green technology, our decarbonisation strategy reinforces New Zealand’s reputation as a clean, green and innovative nation.”

As one of Auckland’s leading transporters, Fuller360 know they have a role to play in supporting the city’s people and communities.

$1M towards community initiatives and charities

Every year, the organisation contributes nearly $1M to community efforts and initiatives across the city – ranging from free swimming lessons to ensure all kids are confident on the water, and ferrying doctors and health professionals between island communities for free, to facilitating opportunities for children from low socio-economic areas to travel and learn about New Zealand’s environment.

Whether you’re boarding a Fullers360 to get to and from business events or exploring treasured destinations, you can travel knowing you are supporting Auckland’s people, wildlife, and precious natural environment.

Fullers360 are a member of the Auckland Convention Bureau and work closely with us to provide sustainable transport options for business event organisers and their attendees, making any event extra special.
