Introducing Study Auckland student ambassador Jonathan Lau Wei Shiing from Malaysia.
Jon is studying a Bachelor of Commerce, majoring in Accounting and Information Systems at the University of Auckland.
Kia ora Jon, what do you love about Auckland city?
I love the diversity of the people, cultures, ethnicities and food here in Auckland! I also love that Auckland has different precincts around the city. From chill vibes at Wynyard Quarter to a commerical business centre on Queen Street. Auckland is an amazing city to spend time in.
What kind of new relationships did you make as a student in Auckland?
I’ve gotten to know some of the kindest and nicest people I have ever met, which have turned out to be some of my closest friends here in New Zealand. I’ve also had the opportunity to meet people from the finance sector, which I hope to work with in the future.
What has been your favourite experience in Auckland?
My favourite experience is transitioning from a scared and unsure first-year student to becoming someone I am proud of being. I’ve appreciated learning the ropes through meeting the right people and making the right choices in life! (99% of the time)

I am a dual sport athlete in Basketball and Ultimate Frisbee!
