January
🛈 The BNZ Auckland Lantern Festival is one of the highlights of the Auckland events calendar every year, attracting visitors from across the world.
If your holiday wishlist starts with sunshine, January is your month. Long days and warm evenings are perfect for exploring Auckland's spectacular coastline, whether you're swimming at Mission Bay, catching waves at Piha, relaxing on the white sands of Waiheke Island’s Onetangi Beach or escaping to Maraetai for the day.
It’s also the month we celebrate our city with a long weekend for Auckland Anniversary. It brings an extra buzz to the region with special events, including the Auckland Anniversary Regatta and the International Buskers Festival.

February
Summer is still in full swing, and February is full of festivals. Waitangi Day celebrations, the vibrant Auckland Lantern Festival and Auckland Pride Month create an exciting line up of events that transform parks, public spaces and neighbourhoods across the city.

March
March in Auckland might surprise you. The weather remains beautifully warm, the school holiday crowds have disappeared and there's a relaxed vibe across the region.
This month, the Pasifika Festival brings together the colours, flavours and cultures of the Pacific, while Easter often falls around this time, bringing markets, family events – like the legendary Easter Show – and of course a long weekend to go with it.

April

🛈 Autumn hues of brown, red and orange can be spotted across Auckland as the season changes, transforming spots like Victoria Park into idyllic locations to capture a picture for Instagram.
Autumn really showcases Auckland as a city made for wandering. Parks fill with rich shades of amber and crimson and temperatures are ideal for exploring on foot. Take a stroll through Cornwall Park, Pukekawa Auckland Domain or the Auckland Botanic Gardens, or walk to the summit of Maungawhau Mount Eden for sweeping city views.
Alternatively, you can head up the SkyTower and check out the 360 degree views of Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland as it’s blanketed in the warm colours of autumn.

May
If food is one of the main reasons you travel, May deserves a spot on your calendar. Iconic Auckland Eats typically returns during this time, celebrating the top 100 dishes locals queue for and visitors make a beeline for.
Beyond the food, May is a good month to head indoors to explore some of Auckland's cultural icons. Discover the stories of Aotearoa at Tāmaki Paenga Hira Auckland War Memorial Museum, delve into the city's seafaring history at the New Zealand Maritime Museum, or spend an afternoon exploring Karangahape Road’s galleries, vintage stores and diverse dining options.

June

Winter arrives, but Auckland is still in fine form. Crisp mornings give way to blue-sky afternoons ideal for strolling the waterfront, while cool evenings create the perfect excuse to discover the region's arts, dining and entertainment scene. With those longer and darker nights, you can discover what the city looks like after 5pm with Auckland by Night.
Spend the morning at Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tāmaki and the afternoon at Wētā Workshop Unleashed before heading to Federal Street for dinner. After your meal, catch a performance at The Civic, SkyCity Theatre or Aotea Centre (see what’s on when you’re in town). August
While it's still winter, clear days are common, creating beautiful conditions for a refreshing weekend away.

September
Spring brings fresh energy to every corner of Auckland. Lambs return to Cornwall Park, cherry blossoms begin to bloom across the city and the new season brings plenty of opportunities to explore Auckland's parks, coastal walks, and nearby islands as the weather starts to warm up.
Te Wiki o te Reo Māori (Māori language week) falls in September and is an excellent chance to practice your te reo Māori around Auckland, and especially with the Treasures of Tāmaki.

As winter hibernation mode really starts to melt away, it's the perfect time to book a fun city stay and swap cosy nights in for rooftop cocktails. November
November is a great time to experience Auckland's food scene as the evenings grow longer and outdoor dining starts to return. Spend an evening sampling your way through the Auckland Night Markets, where you'll find everything from dumplings and bao buns to sizzling skewers and sweet treats.
