Unleash your inner sea creature and dive into the magic of the ocean at The Queens Wharf Mermaid Parade, a FREE event and a spectacular and nautical feast for the eyes!
This glittering, costumed, parade is a celebration of the beauty, protection, and prosperity of the Moana surrounding us. With fabulous, nautical looks brought to you by YOU!
Category is Marine Animal: We want to see your Mermaids and Mermen, your sailors, squid, sea urchins, starfish, the list floats on! We encourage you to get crafty, creative and colourful. Festivities include a “Mermaidification Station”, sustainable costume crafts, a DJ, interactive games, and more. The parade promptly begins at 2:00 pm and winds its way along the waterfront where you will be greeted with more surprises!
From little ones to pets to all generations, this immersive experience invites self-expression while highlighting the significance of our treasured marine ecosystems.
Event Schedule:
11:00 am: Attendees drop into Queens Wharf Village for nautical crafting, Mermaidification station, games and music.2:00 pm : PARADE BEGINS *make sure to arrive by 1:30pm at the latest to join the parade.
*Event moves to Moana Auckland Festival Hub on Te Wero island*
2:45 - 3:15: COSTUME CONTEST with epic prizes awarded for the best costumes of the day, hosted by Auckland drag legend Anita Wigl’it.
3:30 - 8:00pm Exuberant performances by Fathe and the Sweetos, The Dust Palace, DJ Matthew Crawley, Mermaid Bait, and the Wellington Sea Shanty Society.
This is an ALL AGES, immersive experience inviting people to get creative, colorful and nautical and we cannot wait to light up the waterfront with mer-magic.
FREE REGISTRATION:
To manage crowd size, we ask that if you will be dressing up and participating in the parade, you register for this event here.We encourage dressing up, but spectators are also very welcome You will have a great parade view at 2:00pm in the Te Komititanga square.
The Mermaid Parade is a part of the Summer on Queens Wharf programme, supported by Eke Panuku Development Auckland, and is also included as a part of Moana Festival.
